SHAN Jixiang

Research fellow, senior architect, and registered city planner, Shan is also Member of the 10th, 11th and 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and President of the Cultural Relics Society of China. He previously served as Director General of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage before taking up his present position as Director of the Palace Museum in January 2012.

Shan graduated and received his D.Eng. in Urban Planning and Design from the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University as a student of Professor Wu Liangyong, an academician of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering. He was an adjunct professor and doctoral advisor at a number of universities, including Peking University and Tsinghua University. In March 2005, he received the International Leadership Award issued by the American Planning Association (APA). In September 2014, he was awarded the Forbes Prize by the International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works. Shan has published over ten monographs, including Cultural Heritage: Thoughts and Practice, and over a hundred academic papers.
