Appointed President-Director of the Musée du Louvre in April 2013. He graduated from the Ecole Française in Athens and joined Louvre as Curator of Cultural Heritage in 1997. He was Director of the Department of Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities in 2007, overseeing the extensive renovation of the Greek antiquities galleries.

Martinez is a Member of the High Council of the French Museums, the Scientific Counsel of the National Institute of the History of Art, and also serves on the Scientific Counsel of the Ecole Française of Athens and the Artistic Counsel of the National Museum. He is also a professor at the Ecole du Louvre and teaches archaeology and art history of the ancient Greek world, and a Member of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs Executive Board.
