CHEN Kelun
Shanghai Museum (China)

Currently Research Fellow and Advisor of the Shanghai Museum. He is also an adjunct professor at the Fudan University, Member of the National Commission for Cultural Relics Appraisal, and Deputy Chairman of the Chinese Society for Ancient Ceramics. After graduating from the Xiamen University with a Bachelor’s degree in Archeology, Chen conducted antiquities research at the Zhejiang Provincial Museum. From 1984-86, he studied cultural heritage and received a Master’s degree at the Fudan University, where he remained and taught. He joined the Shanghai Museum in 1990 and was invited as Honorary Director of the Bowers Museum in Los Angeles in 2005.

Chen has published academic works in many fields, including Chinese ancient ceramics, archeology, history, culture, and the theory and practice of museology. He has taught cultural heritage and museology at the Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University for many years. In September 1998, Chen was awarded the L’ordre national du Mérite at the Elysee Palace in Paris by the former French President Jacques Chirac in recognition of his significant contribution to the study of antiquities and the development of museums in China.
